This term overview is an indication of the work I
have planned and will be adjusted according to student response and other
opportunities for learning that occur throughout the term.
|
English
This term students will be focusing
on two genres – Persuasive and Narrative.
They will be looking at the text features, structure and most
importantly, adding descriptive details to their writing. By the end of term, hopefully students will
understand the different purposes of texts and how to independently structure
their writing.
There will also be a large focus on
handwriting and consistent formation of letters and numbers.
Punctuation and Functional Grammar
is an area which will also have a focus. Students have already begun explicit
lessons around punctuation, correct sentence structure and functional grammar.
All students have individualised
spelling contracts taken from words they have spelt incorrectly in testing and
their work. Putting words into
sentences, marking up phonograms, identifying antonyms, synonyms, prefixes and
suffixes, and identifying Functional Grammar in their sentences will be weekly
tasks throughout the term.
Room 31 and 30 are going to be involved
in the ‘Fresh Start’ program (a version of Read, Write, Inc.) to help students
in need of extra literacy help.
Maths
This term, students will be tested
and will revise mathematical topics in preparation for NAPLAN in Term 2. There will also be a focus on:
●
Number and Place Value –
including four operation
●
Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
●
Pattern/Number Lines
●
Measurement
●
3D Shapes
●
Word Problems/Problem
solving tasks
Problem Solving lessons are based on
Ann Baker’s Natural Maths Strategies. Students expand their thinking and work
collaboratively with their peers. Hopefully there will be 2 problem solving
lessons per week, with a set of questions students will need to research and
then describe their findings.

Health is taught in the classroom
with me. The Child Protection Program is taught throughout the school as part of
the Health and Safety curriculum. It provides children with skills to recognise
when they are in unsafe situations and to make decisions about how to keep
themselves safe. The two main themes
are:-
o
You have the right to feel safe all
of the time
o
Nothing is so bad you can't tell
somebody about it
This term I also have a focus on
Mindfulness and Resilience and hopefully provide strategies to remain calm in
stressful situations.

The Arts cover five main domains –
Visual Art, Music, Drama, Dance and Media Arts.

original product, describe how it works and identify how this particular
product fits the needs of the community a target audience. Students will be drawing the design breakdown

the class for peer review, looking at materials, functionality of the product,
and how they would market the product to the public.
Digital Technology.
